Gyotaku Fish Printing

I've been working on lesson planing that incorporates different cultures from around the world and I came upon a Japanese printing technique called Gyotaku.

Using a dead fish, an artist can ink the body of the fish in one or multiple colors. With a piece of paper you put it flat on top of the fish body to make an ink impression. It is a tradition method of Japanese fish printing dating back to the mid 1800s. This form nature printing has been used by fishermen to record their catches, but has also become an artform on its own.

I thought this would be a fun lesson for the kids this year- we could all do it K-4. Luckily for me I found some rubber fish used for this so we wont have to use real dead fish!

I added it to my supply list so hopeful we will be able to do this very cool and educational printmaking approach...possible art making ideas....

Things to ponder on....

Back To School, Count Down!

I went to Ikea today and I found some really great decorations for starting back to school in about 4 weeks! Excited to say I finally got a rug for Art class! I think my kindergarteners will be happy about it when we have story time in class!

Check it out!

Another exciting find are these decorative stickers! They look like paint splatter...so exciting...

Finishing up art lessons for the next coming year like this Koi Fish lesson from Art Project For Kids, I added sand around the edges to talk about texture.
Talk to ya soon!
